Mantel Clocks
Mantel clocks are designed to fit on a mantel, fireplace or shelf, and as a result are usually quite small. They were developed as early as the 1750s in France, and remain in use today.
Often, these clocks are valued as much for their placement as for their ability to tell time. They are designed to mesh with photos and other items which might be on a mantel. These clocks are often ornate and decorative.
The clock’s movement is supported by a seat board. They can be made of porcelain, wood, or metal.
