Alarm Clocks

Nearly everyone in industrialized countries uses an alarm clock of some kind. Whether it is a student making sure she doesn’t miss her first day of class, or someone waking up to go to work at the same time every day, alarm clocks have seamlessly been imbedded into our society.

Usually, though not always, these clocks have electronic drives. This comes most commonly with a digital interface, so that the clocks can be better seen at night. In addition to the buzzing sound most alarm clocks make, many of these clocks come with built-in radio or CD playing capability, which can also be used as an alarm.

Since most alarm clocks run on electricity, most digital clocks need to be reset whenever the power is cut, which can be a particular problem for alarm clocks if the power is cut in the middle of the night. However, most current clocks incorporate some kind of battery backup technology so that time is sustained during power outages.
